You know you're doin' something right when...

...your graduate advisor calls you "scrappy"

Nice word. Like "plucky," except that it implies that you kick more ass, or something. But are you sure it's not a polite way of calling you "short?" :)

I got an "A" in Crazy Beeyotch said...

*gasps*

...I hadn't thoughta that!

I'm not sure if "scrappy" necessarily entails a reference to 'vertical situation' (that's what they're calling "short" these days). But I'll take it, either way.

OK, I'm a dork. You knew that. I wrote that last night, just to be amusing and/or obnoxious--but then I had to check me some dictionaries!

Scrappy, adjective, is from "scrap," as in "fight," which is a much more recent usage than "scrap" as in "small piece of something." In fact, "scrappy" actually seems to be closer to "scrape" than to the other kind of "scrap." So the vaguely insulting connotation is strictly unofficial. But of course it's the same root! (And of course "scrap" is from Norse--that /sk/!)

Maybe you remember me worrying about whether our mothers are reading all of this? Well, mine is--she sent me an email telling me basically to post something, god damn it! Which is very embarrassing. When your mom tells you you're not blogging enough, there's a problem.

So I blogged, a little. Just "fiction." Hopefully more coming. But anyway, it's your turn. :)
